The Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University Co., Ltd, a national architectural design institute, was founded in 1958.In November 2011, it was approved as a “High-Tech Enterprise” in Beijing.Relying on the profound academic, scientific research and teaching resources of Tsinghua University and as the base for teaching, scientific research and practice of School of Architecture and School of Civil Engineering, we have been attaching great importance to academic research and the commercialization of technological achievements with our planning and design level coming out top in China. In 2011, our Institute was accredited by China Exploration & Design Association as a “National Good Faith Unit in Architectural Design Institute”. In 2012, it was appraised by Architectural Society of China as one of “Top 100 Famous Architectural Design Institutes in Contemporary China”.Currently, THAD has more than 1200 engineering design staff, including 6 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 National Design Masters, 185 national Class 1 Registered Architects, 69 Class 1 Registered Structural Engineers, 35 Registered Utility Engineers and 14 Registered Electrical Engineers. In recent years, our Institute has won over 500 national, provincial and ministerial excellent design awards for the projects we have designed and completed, ranking in the front among nationwide Class A institutes. In scientific research, we have completed the design of the buildings for China’s Zhongshan Station, Great Wall Station and Kunlun Station at the South Pole; taken charge of and participated in the preparation of many national, local and industrial standards; and obtained the invention patent for the research subject of light steel framework shear wall structure system. The TUS engineering design software independently developed by our Institute has passed national accreditation. Academically, we have edited Volume 2 of Architectural Design Data Collection and participated in the compilation of the Terminology of Architecture. As the platform for production, learning and research, we have set up the base for joint cultivation of professional degree postgraduates with the Ministry of Education since 2011. In management, we have obtained the QMS certificates of CNAS and UKAS.Our Institute actively develops international exchanges and cooperation. We have established good cooperative relationships with colleges and universities, research institutes, design units and owners in more than ten countries and regions including France, the United States, Japan, Germany, Australia, ROK and Chinese Hong Kong.Since its establishment, our Institute has always been laying emphasis on quality, following the struggle goal of “designing elaborately, creating fine works, transcending ourselves and striving to be first-rate”, and cordially providing high-grade designs and services for all walks of life at home and abroad. Our team is young and full of energy. If architecture could be said as the cultural label of a city, our architects would outline them with smooth lines, describe them with soul thought and practice them with gusty enthusiasm, and the only aim is to make the world better.
