Selfie Panda is a colossal artwork at 26m long, 13mwide and 13m high, offering the interactivecapability to takes ‘selfies’ with the public. Thework is a direct reference to the ongoingconservation efforts to protect the species bycreating a clever social commentary, offering largescale community engagement and attracting globalattention.

UAP was engaged by the client from the onset of thisproject, developing a curatorial scope followed bythe design, engineering, fabrication andinstallation of the work. Over 3 million strands ofpainted wire were screwed into the perforatedaluminium body of the sculpture to create a tactileand weatherproof fur coat. The selfie stickshowcases a large programmed LED screen with acamera embedded into it, emulating a real phone.Visitors are encouraged to take selfies via a customdeveloped mobile application.
