atelier suasua was established in the spring of 2019 in Beijing, and the current studio is located in Caoyuan Hutong in the Beixinqiao area. The scope of work includes but is not limited to the architectural design and renovation of small and medium-sized cultural, commercial, and residential spaces.
In the initial few years of practice, we have gradually become aware of the importance of architectural space for every individual. The rapid changes in the social environment, the pandemic, information overload, and other factors have caused people to feel disoriented and anxious, exacerbating the alienation between individuals and between humans and nature. We hope that our work can move away from forms of creation that merely stimulate the eyes and excessive self-expression, and instead focus more on the everyday. We strive to perceive with our hearts, seeking things that remain unchanged in the ever-evolving environment. We aim to uncover the inherent spatial characteristics and cultural values of our projects, to create simple and dignified places that care for and nourish specific individuals.

At the same time, we are happy to do design with fun, always reminding ourselves to get rid of the inertia thinking, and to be alert to being trapped by ‘techniques’ while accumulating experience. We are always looking, touching, visiting, communicating, experiencing, trying, living, and mobilising all our senses to answer questions. We also often look for answers in traditional spaces, villages, ancient temples and gardens, which imply primitive and sincere thinking. Treating materials and constructions, we focus on handicrafts and look forward to discovering and experimenting with local crafts and practices in our projects.

We value every project regardless of its function or size. Places are created and used to become unique living beings, interacting with their users in the dimension of time, and we want them to be unrepeatable and unending.
